Rules for dating

My friend shared with me later just how anxiety-provoking this new relationship has become. After a few weeks, they've officially entered that awkward phase where uncertainty is king, and I'm sure each member of the couple is spending a great deal of time talking about the relationship with their respective friends. The beginning of a new relationship is scary because you don't really know the person you're dating, so you can't be sure what you're going to get. HAROLD DYCK Well, I see you’ve got eyes for my daughter Sarah. Dyck says she saw you looking across into the women’s section last Sunday and she told me after church, “Harold, you need to say something to that Klassen boy.” So, now, here I am, telling to you how it is.

It means dating with an understanding of the gospel.

Laying out guidelines for dating as followers of Jesus could alter the lives of men and women by keeping them out of toxic and unhealthy relationships (and ultimately marriages).

Most importantly, guidelines and principles for dating could transform lives and shape eternities. And we have a responsibility as men and women of God to be pro-active.

Can you imagine taking a thousand dollars and putting it into a stock that you don't know much about? Yet in relationships, the pull toward a new lover is so strong that it feels as if you really don't have a choice at all.

If you only knew a few details about the company you were investing in, you'd probably decide not to invest in it. If you like the person and want to get to know them better, you have no choice but to proceed.

You might get into a relationship with someone who loves Jesus, meets the values you have in a future spouse and is compatible with you. Just end the relationship and continue to seek the Lord. Again, please don't be a freakish weirdo and give Christians a negative label. My wife loves the Lord, and I can say with all certainty I wouldn't be following Jesus without her. Pull over at the closest gas station and decide what you want in a future spouse. Your list is designed to give you a framework for dating, not be a checklist for it. Your heart and the holiness of marriage are too important to flippantly give away because you are frustrated, impatient or settling.
